Spring Break Outings

Join Ms. Wendy for fun outings in the community during spring break. Sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 outings! Designed for 14+ years.

Monday, March 29 12:00-2:00: Bowling at Avon North Hill Lanes. Meet at the bowling alley and enjoy 2 games of bowling with a pizza lunch, followed by a wallk around town if time permits. At this time, masks are required.

Wednesday, March 31 12:00-2:00: Painting with a Twist. Meet at the Painting with a Twist on Rochester Road and join friends for painting, socializing, and fun!

  • $40 per person 

Friday, April 2 for a Matinee Movie at Emagine Theater. Pay for your own ticket and concessions when we arrive. Exact movie and time will be announced as the date gets closer.

  • $6 per person

Movie Pizza Night

Enjoy a movie and a pizza snack with friends, one Friday a month from September-April from 6:30-9:00. This opportunity is designed to support persons with special needs.

Adaptive Basketball Workshops

Registration opens April 1.

Beginner/Intermediate:

This is a basketball workshop specifically for individuals with special needs. Basic skills may or may not already be present. Camp will work on basic skills with introduction to game play. This is designed for participants that had traditionally participated in East and Instructional leagues.
This camp will be led by Ms. Laura. Masks are required at this time.

Wednesdays May 5-June 2 6:00-7:00 at RARA Gym

Intermediate/Advanced:

This is a basketball workshop specifically for individuals with special needs. Basic skills are present. Camp will work on building on basic skills with a large amount of game play. This is designed for participants that had traditionally participated in West and East leagues.
This camp will be led by Ms. Laura. Masks are required at this time.

Wednesdays May 5-June 2 7:00-8:00 at RARA Gym

$75 per person

Clay Creations Workshop

 Join Paint Creek Center for the Arts for this class on creating clay creations that has been designed for people with special needs. We will focus on using our fine motor skills and transforming the clay in front of us into unique pinch pot bowls and other creations. All supplies included.

Ages 14+

$25 per person

March 11 5:00-6:30 in the RARA Messy Room

August 13 5:00-6:00 in RARA Messy Room (Registration opens April 1)

 

Watercolor Workshop

Join Paint Creek Center for the Arts for a Watercolor Workshop. In this class, we'll start by covering basic techniques of watercolor, then move on to color mixing, and finally we'll learn about resist. Support will be provided by Ms. Wendy. All supplies included

$25 per person

June 15 5:00-6:00 in RARA Wright Room

Movie Night Out

This opportunity is designed to support persons with special needs. Enjoy a movie with your friends at the theater one Friday a month. You will pay for your own ticket and concessions. Movies and times are based on the current theater schedule. You must pre-register so that we have enough assistance and space reserved. Movie select/time will be emailed the Wednesday prior to the program. 
Location: Emagine Theater, Rochester Road

$6 per person

March 26, and April 30. Registration begins soon.

Holiday Dances

Come to the RARA Basketball Courts to enjoy an opportunity for a themed dance with food, music, and time with friends! 

Dances are 6:30-9:00 PM and $15 per person

March 19 - St. Patty's Dance. Wear Green! CANCELLED

May 7 - Cinco de Mayo Dance

Adaptive Judo

 Judo classes are taught by a certified USJF black belt with over 30 years of teaching experience, including 7 years in adaptive programming for peoples with special needs. Class emphasizes safety and respect for others while being fun as well. Beginner Judokas will learn to fall safely, as well as master the fundamentals of basic Judo (throwing and pinning; there are no kicks and punching) and can eventually earn belt ranks. Just wear long sleeve sweats tops and bottoms. Gis (uniforms) can be purchased from the instructor when the participant decides on a gi. 14+ Years

Masks are required for this program at this time. We will let you know if anything changes.

Fee: $100/month 

Times/Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:15-6:00, register monthly

Location: RARA Group X

Adaptive Yoga

Registration opens April 1.

Come join Ms. Brooke, an accomplished yoga instructor! This 6-week long session is designed to support persons with special needs 14+ Years. Participants will be involved in yoga poses, breathing exercises and deep relaxation. The class will also include interactive games to promote social interaction. Topics will include mindfulness, compassion for others and meditation. These practices work together to balance physiological and cognitive functions, enhancing physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. A maximum of 12 participants.
Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring their own yoga mat.

Ms. Brooke will provide yoga instruction. If you think your child may need extra supervision in a park, your supervision is recommended.

Location: Open Field at Bloomer Park

Fee: $90/session

Session 1: Wednesdays May 26-June 30 6:00-6:45

Session 2: Wednesdays July 14-August 18 6:00-6:45

Summer Dinner in the Park

Registration opens April 1.

In lieu of Diners Club, we will be meeting with Ms. Wendy at Bloomer Park's Pine Grove Shelter to enjoy a picnic dinner together. Each participant is expected to pack their own dinner and drink. Fee is $6 per meeting for 14+ Years.

Tuesdays June 22, July 20, and August 17 from 5:30-6:30.

Adaptive Line Dancing Class

 Registration opens April 1.

Join Ms. Erica for a fun line dancing class! About half of the class will be spent learning some popular line dances, while the other half of class will be spent creating our own dances and freestyling! At this time, masks are required for programs. Exact room that this program will be in is TBD, but it will be located in a dance room at RARA. 14+ Years

Mondays July 12-August 16 6:00-6:45 $60 per person

Fitness Walk with Ms. Wendy

Registration opens April 1.

For persons with developmental disabilities 14+ Years. This 4-week group will be led by Ms. Wendy on the Paint Creek Trail for a good cardio fitness walk. Parents are welcome to participate too! Wear gym clothes and shoes. Bring your water bottle. We will meet at the West Entrance of the Rochester Hills Library. 

Tuesdays in May 5:30-6:30

$20 per person

NASA Rocket Science

Registration opens April 1.

Investigate the four forces of flight! Participants will work in groups to build rockets to launch at the end of class. Support will be provided by Ms. Wendy. 14+ Years.

Monday, May 10 6:30-7:30 $35 per person
